This story should be sad: The driver of one of only 15 beautiful Bugatti Veyrons in the USA loses control of his car and drives straight into the water. Unfortunately for the driver, once you hear how it happened, you will probably stop feeling bad for him and just laugh.
Andy Lee House, 34, owner of Performance Auto Sales and owner of the $1.6 million super-car was traveling through Galveston, TX this week to look at a high-end property. He was allegedly talking on his cell phone when a huge pelican bird flew right in front of the car and startled him. The driver, with slowed reaction time due to his attention being focused on his conversation, tried to swerve to miss the bird. He then hit a small mud patch and the over-correction caused his Veyron to swerve and point directly at the water.
The Veyron then went for a swim in about 2 feet of water. If you still feel bad for the guy, read on. The man then didn’t even bother to turn off his 16 cylinder, quad turbo engine! Local news affiliate KHOU reported that the powerful, 1,000 horsepower engine “gurgled like an outboard motor for about 15 minutes before it died.”
After the crash, the driver simply got out of the car and left the door open. KHOU footage later reveals that the car wasn’t even submerged deep enough in water to completely cover the wheels, so the man was at no risk of drowning.
This man may be smart enough to make millions, but he hasn’t figured out that an internal combustion engine cannot function underwater. Simply turning it off would have saved the engine, but I guess that’s the insurance company’s problem now.
